Pauline Sanders, inventor and founder of Red Dirt Workwear is passionate about the people who work in oil and gas, and mining. She understands remote sites, offshore work, and work in the Australian bush.
The name, Red Dirt Workwear, was born out of Pauline’s love for the red soils of the Australian outback. Red Dirt Workwear is drawn from her three decades of experience and is built on caring for people at remote locations. Staying cool is more than just ‘manning up’ – staying cool improves concentration and may reduce accidents.
Her career started in the 80s working in non-traditional trades. At only 19 years old she got her Seamen’s Union Ticket was one of the first women working offshore on a jack up rig in the Timor Sea. The American tool pusher running the rig supported Pauline as she began her career as the night cook. She worked on the rig in a 2-week on, 2-week off rotation.
Though there were women working offshore in other parts of the world, Pauline was the first woman among the 60 male crew members on the Timor job. On her last rotation, the drilling was done and the rig was to ‘go on the tow.’ The rig was listing with a leg stuck in the mud, and the men assigned to move the rig ‘went tools down’ for a couple of hours because – there was a woman on board!
Pauline was strong and her response was, ‘Who is going to feed you?’ She stayed on the rig and was supported by only a few. The experience locked in her commitment to her career. She continued on to manage remote exploration camps and provided not only cooking and cleaning. Pauline’s speciality is building camp morale.
Pauline is embracing her adventures with the design of Red Dirt Workwear. In fact the name, Red Dirt Workwear, was born out of her love for the natural state of the Australian outback. Red Dirt Workwear draws upon Pauline’s three decades of experience and is built on the happiness she felt while caring for people at remote locations.
